DETAIL: Galatée Martin, While You Are Sleeping, 2026

Galatée Martin (b. 1993, Normandy, France) is a French artist working across painting, drawing, textile, ceramics, and mural interventions. She lives and works in Paris.

Martin studied textile design at the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Lyon and fashion design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. Her work has been presented internationally, including Just Room Enough Island at /THE PLATFORM, Antwerp (2022), Sonambule at 1heure61, Montreuil (2021), and La pensée sauvage at Galerie Tatiss, Lyon (2020). In recent years, she has expanded her practice through large-scale mural and site-specific commissions, most notably a major intervention for Le Meurice in Paris, where her distinctive figurative universe transformed the historic hotel into an immersive narrative environment.

Working across painting and textile-informed surfaces, Martin develops a visual language rooted in instinctive line, fluidity, and dreamlike figuration. Her recurring figures—often described as companions or guides—inhabit spaces that oscillate between interior and landscape, creating quiet, non-linear narratives. Gesture, pattern, and fragmentation structure her compositions, allowing the image to unfold as a shifting, embodied experience rather than a fixed scene. Drawing from mythology, memory, and the natural world, Martin creates poetic worlds in which humans, animals, and vegetation coexist in states of gentle transformation.
