AFTER HOURS
10.11.24 - 11.02.24
Opening reception:
Friday October 11th, 6-8pm
"After Hours" is an exploration of intimacy, privacy, and the hidden nature of human secrecy. Together, the works invite viewers into spaces where the boundary between public and private fades, and what is unseen comes to light. In these moments, time seems to shift, unveiling the subtleties that shape our lives and relationships.
The Kapurani brothers introduce characters whose inner worlds unravel subtly. Their work Nighthawk echoes the enigmatic presence of a figure in Edward Hopper’s Nighthawks—visible yet distant, their secrets just out of reach. Yuwei Tu’s work examines the intricate dynamics of the mother-daughter relationship, capturing the emotional resonance of filial transmission. Her use of muted tones, soft glances, and the play of light and shadow creates a contemplative atmosphere that invites introspection. In her work, Gigi Rose Gray’s characters seem to be moving through shared spaces, their paths crossing but their connections elusive, suggesting an undercurrent of solitude amidst proximity.
Collectively, the four artists delve into the secrets that shape our closest relationships. "After Hours" explores the delicate balance between presence and absence, intimacy and distance, where what remains unseen often tells the most powerful stories. Like an invite to reflect on the complexity of human connection, where the intimate unfolds in the shadows.
